Homo Sapiens-Demens, "America" and the End of Times

06 November, 2008

"America" is a funny country, that is, it could be funny if it weren't so bloody tragic.

I am writing "America", because "Americans", being as they believe they are, the "umbilicus" of the world, call themselves "Americans".

We...well, we are "just" Latin-Americans...Not "true" Americans at all, but perhaps a kind of subspecies. Despite the fact that Colon arrived to what we know today as the Antillas, and Americo Vespucio, the man after whom "America" was named, was an Italian (a Latin, of course) who died in Spain.
But, we must not forget that, for Americans, history began in 1786. At least the history that is worth telling about.

The government of "America" has killed about 1.000.000 Iraqis (it may be 1.200.000) since the beginning of Bush crusade in search of those now mythical "massive destruction weapons".

"America" represents the so called "First World", and Edgar Morin called our species "Homo-Sapiens-Demens". Following his thread -which BTH I believe is very interesting indeed- "America" could the true representant of the "Sapiens" and also the "Demens" part of man.

Please, allow me these ravings, as I am just a feeble Latin-American from the "Third World" and my "Third-Worldness" may have damaged my judgment.
But I just do not understand how a people that allow his government to pursue such a war against a far away Islamic country like Iraq -meanwhile hanging to death a "Saddam Hussein"- ends electing a Barack HUSSEIN Obama...

But the chances of understanding these things may just be far away the possibilities of a poor Third-World citizen like me.

This same First-World-King-Country has a Hollywood "Inteligentzia" represented among others by Steven Spielberg, Susan Sarandon and Brad Pitt that is fighting for the marriage-rights of homosexuals.

I happen to be a biological-prone Third-world citizen, and although I will never do something against a man or woman on account of his/her psycho-sexual orientation, I just cannot see how marriage beween them may be seen as a natural thing -similar to a male-female relationship- from a biological point of view.
I understand quite well that my position is far from been "political correct" in these times, but I will defend my own right as a Third-world savage to think as I do.

How can a system that has brought unmitigated disaster to this still beautiful blue planet be called "First-World" is something that simply lies beyond my understanding.

The only thing that comes to my brutish Latin-American mind is that perhaps Edgar Morin is wrong after all, and his "Homo Sapiens-Demens" is just plainly "Homo Demens-Demens".

Sometimes I feel that Human Race has been placed in this planet by an Alien force for destroying the Eco-System, in order for them to come later to a place more akin to their own nature.

Some time ago I was critiziced for defining "America" as an "unscientific democracy". But, been myself a specimen from the Third-World, I just may be lacking the abilities to understand these-and so many others-things and I am confined to see them as just plain lunacy

Dear Citizen:
I am not publishing anymore commentaries that come from anonymous
or "hidden" individuals. Everyone has my real name and face at sight.I am visible "on the line of fire" despite being many times completely politically incorrect in several ways.If you are eager to contest my views, I will gladly publish them once we are on equal terms.
Thank you for your time and best wishes

I hear your thoughts and ideas and agree with some. I was born in America and I have also traveled outside of the country. My biggest concern is how you liken what a country's government does with its citizens. Would you say that Germans are barbaric because they allowed Hitler to destroy so many people, property and culture? No. Would you say the Rwandans are blind and apathetic because of the slaughtering of so many Tutsis? No.

I do not believe that any country's government is a true reflection of the citizens and inhabitants of a country. Many places and people have skeletons in their closets, is your country of origin any different? Have atrocities happened in your country that many protested or fought against? If there have been none in your country’s entire history then you are yours are extremely blessed.

Across the globe governments have seized power and are holding on for dear life so their own personal agendas and greed can prevail while many die in the streets for a lack of food, shelter and medical care. These tragedies also happen in America and many fight against it everyday, myself included. I have been on both sides of the struggle with people fighting for my rights and life and I have reciprocated by fighting for others as well as for myself.

Seems to me you do not want to be known or seen as "just" Latin American or ignorant because where you are from is labeled a "Third World" Country. I agree with you wholeheartedly, if you are from The Americas you are an American, a citizen of the world. And since you are a citizen of the world then what can you do to make this world better, other than point out problems? I also like to point out problems of my city, state, nation and world and I also do NOT blame all of the people who inhabit a place but try to help find solutions. There is no Utopia but there can be a better way of life for us all. I appreciate your views and condor and hope you can appreciate mine.

When I say that United States’ Citizens (you see, I will not call “Estadounidenses” any more “Americans”, as if they wre the solely owners of the title) behave “ethnocentric” and that they act and think as if they are “umbilicus mundi”, I am not referring solely to Government, I mean many, plenty (most?) of them. I have know quite a lot, and they enter into that category, even those who are “free spirits” “new age folks” etc.etc. Are there exceptions? Yes those few that confirm the rule.
And I do not agree with you in regard to Germans, and Rwandans. Germans -most of them-did behave barbaric in Hitler’s time, and Rwandans -most of them-did behave (and keep doing it) blind and apathetic. You will not hear me say “are”, I will firmly abstain from using “is,are” following Korzybski’s E-Prime which is a must for sound epistemological thinking.
For your knowledge, I have been very though when someone in my country put everyone one from United States in the same bag, I have done it publicly, in the media, wide and loud. But now I understand that enough is enough. United States of America has been using all its power to spread a consumerism view of life to an extent that is just repulsive. In route to fulfill this omnivorous role United States has been at the lead of earth pollution and destruction of natural habitat. Systematically, at each Global Encounter, United States officials have been vetoing any diminishing policy of the polluting race, defending always the monetary interests of those whose greediness –and basically, IGNORANCE- is a shame on human condition.
If I were “American”, I will be today like Ezra Pound (and please, that nobody makes the mistake of talking about “Pound’s fascism” without knowing first THE FACTS)
Shame on the monetary system that is leading us to disaster.
Shame on the Consumerism (and annihilating) view of life.
And, I don’t want to offend you on a personal level, but it is a difficult, very difficult for me to abstain from smelling in your discourse a sort of “Uncle Tom”’s scent.
In this regard I will only quote Jomo Jenyatta: "When the missionaries came to Africa, they had the Bible and we had the land. They taught us to pray with our eyes closed. When we opened them, we had the Bible in our hand, and they had the land."

Are you really one of the few exceptions? Praise on you and all the blessings. From now on, take yourself out of the picture when I talk about "estadounidenses"("Americans")I will (literaly) write "with the exception of Blue Buddha" and all the ones that behave and think as he does!
